| Concept | 高さ4.6mの石柱（白御影）と横に5m広がる鉄板との間で、丸いイモ形の自然石が危うく接しながら宙に浮いている。この作者はいつも幾何学的（人工的）な形態と自然な危うい形態とを組み合わせながら、自然なるものの危うさ、薄く柔らかいものの危うさを強調してみせるのが得意で、その対比や組み合わせの中に、現代の状況や人の世のもののあわれさ（同時に強さ）を表象する。ことに素材をありのまま強調することに留意しているので、ある種存在するものたちの、存在するがままのユーモアを投げかけていく。この作品は、16回展の宇部興産賞受賞作。周遊園路の白鳥大橋を渡った岸辺、湖水面を風が渡る静かな場所にあって、孤独な対話を楽しむには絶好の環境である。 A round, potato-shaped natural stone stays in midair, precariously kept between a white granite pillar with a height of 4.6m and an iron plate with 5m in width, spreading horizontally. The sculptor is particularly good at combining geometrical (artificial) forms with natural and unstable forms to emphasize the fragility of natural state, particularly that of fine and soft things. In doing so, he gives shape to the state of our present and the ephemerality (and resilience) of the human world. As he pays particular attention to emphasizing the material as it is, we find humor of a sort in the material’s very existence. The piece won the Ube Industries Award at the 16th Exhibition. The breezy shore across the Swan Bridge along the looped route, where it is located, offers a perfect environment for viewers to enjoy a quiet dialogue. |
