The air, the earth

The 6m-high iron prism stands, curving along the way. Its base and upper part are solid cuboids, but because the curved area in between has linear slits, through which the sky beyond is visible, the object visually exudes precariousness, as if the mechanical force is about to bend it sharply and break the structure. The rusty color of the weathering steel and the blue water surface of the lake beyond, visible through the 16 slits, create a pleasant perspective contrast and present a kind of tension in its nonchalance. The piece won the Television Yamaguchi Broadcasting Award at the 15th Contemporary Japanese Sculpture Exhibition.
