The intention of the sculptor to bring out the charms inherent in stone as a sculpture material is even more visible in this piece, which was an entry for the 2nd Contemporary Japanese Sculpture Exhibition. An enormous, single rectangular monolith, roughly cut towards its core from four sides, features voids with various shapes and sizes. The cut surfaces of the internal voids look like external surfaces, as if equalizing and balancing the values and textures of interior and exterior, while the work’s spatial structure successfully keeps intact the force of the original monolith.
