The work, made of cement, reminds us of the confusions and ingenious efforts in the early days of open-air sculptures. While the desire for enormousness and unrestrained abstractiveness to exploit the spatial liberty are excessively present, one can sense an artistic hesitation – a desire to retain the element of representationalism (the shape of human body). The sculptor was a Shinseisaku Society member and was a prominent emerging artist in the International Representationalism Exhibition, today’s Emerging Artist Exhibition, Contemporary Art Exhibition of Japan, etc. |
