Summary	This work is filled up with approximately 180 small red sections composed of rectangles and squares made up solely of horizontal and vertical lines. Overall many of the segments are horizontally arrayed rectangles where the vertical line is emphasized more than the horizontal line. The diverse array of colors, varying slightly in tone are separated into their own specific divisions. They seem to advance and retreat, without ever reaching a focal point, as this painting mystifies viewers into a type of almost weightless experience. The geometric composition which had formed in the 1940s is here beginning to re-crystallize, and these works by Reinhardt have been dubbed "Archaic color-brick-brushwork impressionism. "The tall vertically arrayed composition is said to have been influenced by the hanging scrolls that the painter gave lectures on the history of art, particularly Asian art, at Brooklyn University after World War II.

1. Indicate the owner of the collection
Please indicate the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art as the owner of the collection. For pieces that are part of the Kimura Teizo Collection, credit “Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art (Kimura Teizo Collection)”, and for pieces from the Fujii Tatsukichi Collection, credit “Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art (Fujii Tatsukichi Collection)”.

2. Indicate any cropping or modifications
If you used a cropped version of the image, indicate that it is partial image. If you make any other modifications, please indicate that as well.

3. Get permission from third-party copyright holders
Even images that are marked as "Public Domain" or "CC0" may be copyrighted by a third party or subject to other rights. It is your sole responsibility as the user of these images to secure permission from any copyright holders. The museum will bear no responsibility for any violations resulting from image user actions.

4. Use of high-resolution images
If you would like to use high-resolution images then please contact Image usage representative.

2．Request non–public domain images

　Those who wish to use the types of images listed in (1)–(2) below must fill out a Image Usage Request after reviewing the Guidelines on the Use of Images and send it via email to our image usage representative (contact information provided below. For further information, please see "Image licensing").

*This includes images that are within the term of copyright protection and for which permission to transmit to the public has been obtained from the copyright owner, as well as images within the extent considered to be necessary (32,400 pixels or less) in the Article 47 of the Copyright Act.

3．Request regarding deliverables

Died	1967
Biography	Born in Buffalo, New York. After graduating from Columbia University, he studied painting from 1936-37 at the National Academy of Design and the American Artists School. In 1937 he became one of the American Abstract Artists, and during the 1930s he painted geometric abstract paintings influenced by Cubism and Mondrian. During the 1940s he emerged from the hardness of geometric abstraction, but then starting at the end of the 1940s, his works once again took on a strong geometric form. In 1953 he advanced to creating almost monochrome works made up of blue or red squared symmetrical patterns. From the following year to his death more than a decade later he created paintings whose canvases were divided horizontally and vertically into thirds, forming 9 rectangles which were painted black in almost indistinguishable forms.
