SummaryShoji's works address the issues of invisible dynamics and the qualities of cloth, a material not particularly noteworthy in and of itself. He is aware of how his works move in space, how they create a new world of space including the work inside the viewer's consciousness, and seeks to recreate these issues in his works. The method of suspending cloth in the air by threads is the starting point of his creative activities and has lead to all manner of variations. This work is one such work, and it was created with the space of the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art in mind. The artist incorporates important messages into his use of colors, and the yellow cloth, an image of a light source, reveals subtle protrusions as it floats lower than the viewer's eye level. It appears indeed as if a sparkling mountain range has been spied from above, and set to float in the sky like a cloud. The multiple threads which hang from the cloth fall like semi-translucent light, giving the work an even greater sense of expanding into space.
